Southern Connecticut Mensa hosts a wide range of events, with something for nearly every interest and personality.
Some gatherings are purely social — dinners, barbecues, bowling nights, and casual get-togethers where the focus is simply spending time together and getting to know one another.
Other events blend social interaction with mind-engaging activities, such as escape rooms, game nights, and local trivia competitions.
We also host intellectually focused events, including speaker presentations and guided discussions. These are often led by members or local experts and cover a wide variety of topics — from space, engineering, finance and cryptocurrency to sports, gambling, entertainment, and more.
Members are encouraged to attend the events that interest them and to propose or host new ones if they’re inclined. People participate in different ways and for different reasons, but the common thread is curiosity, openness, and enjoying the company of like-minded people.
Spouses, partners, and guests are often welcome at social events, and many members attend together. Each event listing clearly notes whether guests are invited, so it’s easy to know what to expect.
Beyond our local chapter, American Mensa offers events across the country. Regional Gatherings are held in cities nationwide, ranging from small and informal to large, multi-day events. The Annual Gathering brings together more than 2,500 members each year for speakers, games, and social events, while Mind Games gathers hundreds of tabletop strategy gamers for a weekend of judging the best new games of the year. These events rotate to a new U.S. city annually, and many members choose to explore the surrounding area before or after attending.
For those who can’t travel — or simply prefer to stay closer to home — there are also many ways to connect remotely. Online discussion groups, interest-based Facebook groups, virtual game sessions, Zoom book clubs, and remote speakers make it easy to stay involved from anywhere.
