Removing Unneeded Services
Unnecessary services running constantly in the background use up system resources; if they serve no useful purpose for you, they are just slowing your system down.
- In control Panel – click Administrative Tools, then
Services.

- Unneeded services:
- Print Spooler – if you don’t use a printer
- Wireless Zero Configurator – if you don’t use Wireless
- Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing – if you have firewall
- Uninterruptable Power Supply – if you don’t use one
- Telnet – if you don’t connect to UNIX networks
- Terminal Services – usually can remove
- Smart Card – if you don’t use one
- Alerter – recommend removing as it blocks some popups
- Error Reporting Service – if a program crashes, it won’t ask you to send the error to Microsoft
- Any provided by a product you don’t use anymore (Symantec, Norton, McAfee, AOL, etc etc)
