  • Removing Unneeded Services

  • Unnecessary services running constantly in the background use up system resources; if they serve no useful purpose for you, they are just slowing your system down.

    1. In control Panel – click Administrative Tools, then Services.

    2. Unneeded services:

      • Print Spooler – if you don’t use a printer

      • Wireless Zero Configurator – if you don’t use Wireless

      • Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing – if you have firewall

      • Uninterruptable Power Supply – if you don’t use one

      • Telnet – if you don’t connect to UNIX networks

      • Terminal Services – usually can remove

      • Smart Card – if you don’t use one

      • Alerter – recommend removing as it blocks some popups

      • Error Reporting Service – if a program crashes, it won’t ask you to send the error to Microsoft

      • Any provided by a product you don’t use anymore (Symantec, Norton, McAfee, AOL, etc etc)
