  • Network Connection Isn't Working

    1. Find your IP Address: click Start, then Run.

    2. Type cmd and click OK (this launches a command-line window).

    3. At command line, type ipconfig and press ENTER key.



    4. If the IP address starts with:

      169.254.x.x - your network adapter is not working;
      192.168.x.x your computer is most likely networked to a router in your home;
      other – it could be that no router is being used.

    5. If a router is being used, you can try a reset:

      - Unplug the power to the router, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in and see if the computer reconnects to the internet after a minute or so;

      - If this doesn't work, then try unplugging the power to both the modem and the router; wait 30 seconds and then plug in the modem power. Wait one minute for it to reconnect to your service provider, then plug in the router power and see if the computer reconnects after another minute or so.

    6. If ipconfig shows no IP address, or the IP address is 169.254.x.x:

      - Click Start / Settings / Control Panel (or Start / Control Panel). If switched to classic view listed at top left, click that.

      - Double-click System, then click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager button in Hardware tab.



      - If you see a yellow exclamation point on the device, reinstall the driver from the manufacturer's website or your CD;

      - If you see a red X through the device, right click on the icon and choose Enable to enable the device.
